David Brough- Chair of Governors and Parent Governor
As the father of three children who have attended or are attending Brightside Nursery Infant School, and a local resident since 2005, I have a strong personal commitment to our school’s nurturing and inclusive environment.
Professionally, I am an Engineering Operations Manager with extensive experience in operations, contracts, project, and engineering management. These roles have developed my expertise in strategic planning, resource management, project delivery, team leadership, and risk assessment—skills that support the Governing Body’s core functions of setting vision and direction, ensuring accountability, and promoting effective use of resources to deliver high-quality early years education.
In my role as Chair, I look forward to working with the Headteacher, staff, governors, parents, and community to help every child thrive and achieve their best start in life.

I have lived in Brightside since 1982 and have held various school governor roles since 2008.
Both my grown up children and my grandson have happily attended Brightside School over the years.
I’m an Early Years Advisor for PACEY and a freelance Childcare Assessor/Tutor. For these roles I ensure I have an up to date knowledge and understanding of Early Years education.
I also work as a volunteer at the local church, being involved in children’s work.
I feel that these roles help me to support the school in my role as Vice Chair of Governors.
